While the NFT bubble has burst, the tantalizing potential of blockchain, which is the foundation of NFT’s, bitcoin, and other cryptocurrencies, endures. Some have even written that blockchain offers the “possibility of entirely reorganizing the profession” of architecture.

Harvard University Graduate School of Design Executive Education offers From Crypto to the Metaverse: Blockchain Applications in Real Estate to equip architects for this paradigm shift.

We asked Jose Luis Garcia del Castillo y Lopez, Lecturer in Architectural Technology at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, to introduce this January’s program.

We also asked him which applications of blockchain he is most excited about — he said (1) Tokenization (fractional asset ownership) and (2) Blockchain-enabled transfers of title and ownership claims.

Jose Luis’ program provides a non-technical introduction to blockchain, focusing on understanding how blockchain works conceptually, its relation to systems like Cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and Metaverses, and its potential impact on the Real Estate industry. We will discuss topics such as decentralization, trust, and smart contracts, present case studies, and speculate on unexplored business opportunities.

The live and interactive course also covers current prop-tech offerings and vendors using blockchain technology.
